One of the most common types of collision repair is bumper repair and replacement. At Elmwood Collision, we provide professional front and rear bumper repair, bumper replacement, and refinishing for drivers throughout Buffalo, Kenmore, Tonawanda, and surrounding Western New York communities. In some cases, damage may extend beyond the bumper cover. Once your vehicle is in our shop and the bumper is removed, we inspect for hidden damage to brackets, reinforcements, and possible frame damage before repairs begin.

Can My Bumper Be Repaired Instead of Replaced?

Not every damaged bumper needs to be replaced. Minor dents, scratches, scuffs, paint damage, and some plastic bumper damage can often be repaired. If the bumper cover is severely cracked, torn, or the mounting points have been damaged, replacement may be the better option. Our technicians inspect every vehicle carefully before recommending the most appropriate repair.

You can bring your vehicle to our shop and we'll write you a preliminary estimate for any visible bumper damage. After disassembly if we find any additional damage we'll work with your insurance company to be sure you have all the necessary repairs completed related to the accident. Schedule a free estimate and let us handle any bumper repair or replacement that is needed on your vehicle.

Hidden Damage Behind Your Bumper

While bumper damage may appear minor, the impact can also affect bumper brackets, reinforcement bars, impact absorbers, parking sensors, lighting components, and surrounding body panels. Some damage isn't visible until the bumper is removed for inspection. Our technicians carefully inspect behind the bumper to identify hidden damage before repairs begin, helping ensure your vehicle is restored properly and safely.

The bumper on your vehicle can be damaged in many different ways, from backing into a pole to being involved in a rear-end collision. In many cases, we can repair the existing bumper through professional body work and refinishing. After inspecting the damage, Elmwood Collision will explain whether your bumper can be safely repaired or whether replacement is the better long-term solution. Our recommendation is always based on the condition of your vehicle, not simply replacing parts that don't need to be replaced. If insurance is involved, we'll also help guide you through the claims process so your vehicle can be restored to its pre-accident condition.

In order to minimize damage, front and rear bumpers are designed to absorb impact in a low-speed collision. If there is minimal damage to a standard bumper cover we most likely can repair and repaint it. Some of the types of bumpers we replace include Standard Bumpers (mostly found on passenger vehicles), Deep Drop Bumpers, Roll Pan Bumpers, Step Bumpers, and Tube Bumpers (typically found on Jeeps).

Frequently Asked Questions About Bumper Repair & Replacement

Can my bumper be repaired instead of replaced?

Many bumpers can be repaired depending on the extent of the damage. Minor dents, scratches, scuffs, and some cracks may be repairable, while severe damage or broken mounting points may require replacement. Our technicians will inspect your vehicle and recommend the best repair option.

How long does bumper repair usually take?

Many bumper repairs can be completed within 1 to 3 business days, depending on the damage, parts availability, paint work, and whether additional damage is discovered during disassembly.

Will the new paint match the rest of my vehicle?

Yes. Our technicians use professional refinishing techniques and computerized color matching to help ensure the repaired bumper blends with the rest of your vehicle.

What if hidden damage is found?

It's common for additional damage to be discovered after the bumper is removed. If your repair involves an insurance claim, we'll document the hidden damage and work directly with your insurance company to obtain approval for any additional necessary repairs.
